Who we are

Architectural Lighting Solutions is an architectural lighting office, focused on the creation of innovative spaces using the light as the primary matter. Composed by architects and engineers, all of them with a wide experience in architectural lighting concultancy, ALS has also specialized in the design and execution of artistic insulations (ARTCHITECTURE) for buildings and urban spaces

Our philosophy is to integrate ourselves within the design, architecture and engineering teams, providing ideas and solutions  so that the perception of lit spaces is the result of an unanimous, excellent and innovative view. It is also worth mentioning the academic research and the teaching work during more than 25 years in the Project Department of the Architecture School of the University of Navarra (Spain) that has resulted in new ideas and concepts as well as having close contact with design innovations, proved essential, in the approach to our work.

Methodology

A distinguishing feature of our work is the dynamic integration with architectural design teams, as well as the use of digital tools that, when calibrated by our experts, allow us to create highly accurate simulations of our lighting proposals.

Through our proprietary methodology, EDI®, we work alongside the design team to monitor a staged process that evaluates and refines ideas until the final solution is reached. This approach is highly beneficial in fine-tuning the design in terms of material quality and achieving the appropriate nighttime ambiance for the architecture..

The proven results of the EDI® method, combined with extensive experience in implementing BIM processes for lighting, have demonstrated the creation of a methodology that ensures high quality, proving to be both highly satisfactory and effective in controlling all processes.

The EDI® method is applied in the four phases into which a project is divided:

Conceptual Design. Criteria and preliminary ideas

Create the lighting atmosphere of the spaces.

Basic Design. Final criteria and their applications in the project

Define the standard solutions to be implemented in the project.

  • Lighting behavior and selection of lighting typologies.
  • Final nighttime simulations and deployment schemes. Basic BIM integration.
  • Pre-definition of the Lighting Control System (LCS).
  • Preliminary validation calculations for solutions and products.
  • Preliminary economic studies.

Executive Design. Lighting Project.

Detailed definition of the lighting in the spaces.

  • Lighting fixture placement: lighting plans and details. Executive BIM integration.

Supervision and Control. Monitoring, Assistance, and Final Adjustments

Addressing questions, evaluating alternatives from contractors, and supervising until the end of the project.

  • Response to inquiries from manufacturers and contractors.
  • Implementation of changes and improvements requested by the client.
  • On-site visits, supervision, and final adjustments, measurement of lighting results, and preparation of a list of discrepancies.
  • Approval report and final fine-tuning.
